Past actions

  • July 2021 - The Minister-President of the Brussels-Capital Region, Rudi Vervoort, uses a digger to officially launch construction work on the site of the Frame media centre, the future showcase of mediapark.brussels.
  • June 2021 - VRT presents its future new headquarters.
  • April 2020 - The Urban Development Corporation (SAU) obtains the planning permission for FRAME, the showcase for mediapark.brussels.
  • February 2020 - The RTBF obtains the planning permission for its future headquarters.
  • March 2019 - The HELB chooses the architect for its new audiovisual school.
  • March 2018 - The Urban Development Corporation (SAU-MSI) picks the project of the consortium Baukunst (Brussels) - Bruther (Paris) as the winning entry in the call for project designers for the construction of Frame.
  • September 2017 - The Brussels Minister-President Rudi Vervoort, the Regional Finance and Budget Minister Guy Vanhengel and the managing directors of RTBF and VRT, Jean-Paul Philippot and Paul Lembrechts, sign the notarial deed by which the Brussels-Capital Region acquires the sites of the two public television broadcasters on Boulevard Reyers.

  • July 2014 – The Brussels regional government appoints an international team led by French architect and urban planner François Leclercq to design the mediapark.brussels urban project, updating the Master Plan of 2010.
  • December 2013 – The four project owners (the Region, the Municipality of Schaerbeek, RTBF and VRT) and the Urban Development Agency (ADT-ATO) sign the cooperation agreements defining shared development objectives, the building programme for the redevelopment of the VRT-RTBF site and the undertaking to incorporate these ambitions in a master plan on a joint project ownership basis.
  • December 2013 – The Brussels Regional Government adopts the Draft Regional Sustainable Development Plan (PRDD-GPDO), ‘a strategic tool to make Brussels an urban region characterised by social justice, economic efficiency and environmental sustainability’. The Plan makes provision for a series of development clusters, including the area around the Reyers RTBF-VRT site.
  • 2013 – VRT, which had considered leaving Brussels, and RTBF both decide to build new headquarters close to their current premises on Boulevard Reyers, allowing their sites to be consolidated. The new headquarters will have 95,000 m² of floor space, instead of the current 189,000 m² (55% less). This decision follows the completion by BUUR, at the Region’s request, of an urban definition study for the RTBF-VRT site, aimed at updating the Master Plan for key area 12, ‘Reyers’. Its contents and conclusions have been discussed by all stakeholders in a series of workshops organised by the Urban Development Agency (ADT-ATO) in the presence of the chief architects of Flanders and Brussels.
  • December 2012 – The Urban Development Agency (ADT-ATO) and the firm IDEA Consult finalise a ‘Feasibility study for a media cluster on the Reyers site’.
  • November 2010 – The Brussels Regional Government adopts the Reyers Master Plan developed by the consultancy firms BUUR and STRATEC for key area 12, ‘RTBF-VRT’. This covers an area of 175 hectares in the municipalities of Schaerbeek, Evere and Woluwe-Saint-Lambert and includes the facilities of the public broadcasters RTBF and VRT between Boulevard Reyers, Rue Colonel Bourg, Rue Henri Evenepoel and Avenue Jacques Georgin. Objective: to strike a balance between the district’s various activities and improve their integration in the urban context of Brussels, in order to take the district out of its isolation and give it better visibility and a better connection with the city.
  • 2007 – The Minister-President of the Brussels government presents the Brussels International Development Plan (IDP) to the Regional Parliament, making provision for ten ‘strategic zones’, including the area around the RTBF-VRT Reyers site.
